ABSTRACT

CONGENITAL DOUBLE ELEVATOR PALSY

A rare condition described as a deficit of elevation of one eye, in both abducted and

adducted positions, pseudoptosis and positive Bell´s phenomenon.

Signs and symptoms, etiological considerations and differential diagnoses will be

discussed.

Surgical treatment with vertical transposition of the horizontal recti muscles and recession

of the inferior rectus muscle will be presented.

Handling of overcorrection and undercorrection is essential to ensure the optimal outcome

of surgery.
