ACUTE ACQUIRED COMITANT ESOTROPIA
Acute Acquired Comitant Esotropia,is a term used to describe an uncommon dramatic presentation of a sudden onset of a relatively large angle esotropia with diplopia. Most cases occur in early childhood , but it has also been reported in adults. The infrequent association with CNS disease is widely recognised , documented and makes such cases a challenge to the ophthalmologist.
Retrospectively, between 2000-2007,we reviewed the files of 8 patients who fulfill the criteria of Acute Acquired Comitant Esotropia. 3 patients were found to have underlying neurological disease. The diagnosis, clinical characteristics and management of this uncommon entity are discussed accordingly.
